Zwelitsha Bulk Pipeline - Phase 1
Construction Duration: 15 months (in progress)
Description
Newground Projects was appointed as the Health & Safety Agents for the client, Buffalo City Municipality. The project is the construction of a new bulk sewer pipeline. Manholes and pedestals were constructed on site. The project has some major Health & Safety risks including deep excavations and blasting. Sections of the pipeline is adjacent to existing urban areas and thus emphasis was placed on the public safety. Unfortunately an incident occurred during one of the blasting session during which someone was injured. The client was however legally covered through monitoring and enforcing the Health & Safety on site. The contractor was also clear after it was proven that he had all the required precautions in place when the incident occurred.
