Duncan Village TRA (Civil)

The Buffalo City Municipality identified a piece of vacant land to be developed as a Transitional Relocation Area.  The scope of the project was not clear at the start of the project and required an alternative approach to the implementation of temporary accommodation.  The project was complicated further by a request from the BCM to ensure that the infrastructure can be converted into permanent housing once the TRA served its purpose.  Various solutions had to be found and required an “out-of-the-box” approach.  Houses were designed such that it could be easily converted into permanent dwellings.  Communal ablution facilities also had to be designed.  Various options were presented and the most cost effective solution was presented for installation.  The project is seen as an unique project that required lateral thinking.
